Richard Bars

Associate

Richard’s practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation. He has extensive experience in the areas of commercial disputes, construction and builders’ liens, personal injury, medical malpractice and professional regulation.

Richard obtained his Juris Doctor from Robson Hall at the University of Manitoba in 2018 and was called to the Bar in 2019. While attending law school, Richard received the Cecil Black Memorial Prize for achieving highest standing in Bankruptcy and Insolvency and the D.A. Thompson Q.C. Prize for highest standing in Access to Justice. He practiced with a large Western Canadian law firm before joining Duboff Edwards Schachter LC as an Associate in 2023. He has appeared before the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench, the Manitoba Court of Appeal, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and in proceedings under Manitoba’s Law Enforcement Review Act.

Richard is committed to community service. Throughout law school, Richard acted as Program Coordinator for Pro Bono Students Canada’s Manitoba Chapter, each year coordinating over 100 volunteer placements for law students providing free legal services to under-served communities. Richard currently sits on the Board of Directors for Artspace Inc.
